The people of 1890s Rusholme had some very familiar worries — pollution, encroaching property developers, kids not getting outdoors enough. The fields and trees they'd grown up with were rapidly vanishing under new builds and railway lines, and when Platt Fields went up for auction as housing plots in 1906, it looked as if another green space was about to be lost for good… until a local resident stepped up and started a campaign to save it.
