Wonder
Field Notes “WONDER” is a multifaceted art project, simultaneously existing as an album of recorded music , a collection of interviews set to music and finally as a geo-located sound-walk.
Myriad conversations about ‘wonder’ are at the heart of this project. The recorded music and interviews are just one part of a bigger community exploration of wonder, neighbourhood and ceremony.
Conversations were recorded over the course of two days.Participants were invited to share how ‘wonder’ impacts their lives. Promoting reflection as; How does wonder play into your life? Where does it take you?
Following the interviews, Field Notes listened and reflected on the interview's themes of wonder; and as a response to these voices composed and recorded their music.
Themes were as varied as solar eclipses, bird-watching, politics, childbirth, gardening, philosophy, homemaking. Music was playful then solemn, echoing with folk and hymn melodies while largely composed spontaneously. Songs emerged fully formed, resonating warmly amongst the musicians while evoking so many of the spoken words.
