Tidelines
ABOUT
Mapped to East Beach on the Isle of Berneray, Tidelines draws upon the coastal landscape of the Western Isles, featuring poems written and narrated by writers on Uist, with music and soundscapes composed by Taigh Chersabhagh Museum & Arts Centre Musician in Residence, Duncan MacLeod.
ABOUT THE ROUTE
The soundwalk follows an approximately 2-mile route along the shoreline, taking around 40 minutes to complete. The route runs from points A to B on the map within the app and back again, shown as a yellow dashed line. Once you reach point B, simply retrace your steps to return to point A.
As the beach is tidal, the route shown is an approximation. We recommend following the shoreline where it is safe to do so, keeping to firm ground and remaining aware of the tide and weather conditions.
The nearest toilets are located at Berneray Hostel, marked number 2 on the map. Please also be mindful that this area is home to nesting birds during the spring and summer months. Dogs should be kept on a lead when not on the beach to help protect wildlife.

ARRIVING by Pauline Prior Pitt
arriving at the sea
it is as if
until this moment
we have held our breath
tight in our chests
and only now
dare to let go
as if in towns
and cities
we are not free
and only the sea
releases us
secretly
we are all in love
with the sea

SANDERLING by Lauriana Pauli
Surf Strider
Wave Dancer
How many thousands
of years have you been here
defying gravity
as you race along
the shore.
Running to catch a rival
to greet a friend
or to just
outrun each other
the waves, and the wind
